Man Who Switched Beer For Food During Lent Loses Over Three Stone

April 22, 2019  15:19

Remember Del Hall? No? What about if we asked whether you remember the guy who gave up food for Lent and chose to adopt a beer-only diet? Ringing a bell now?

Well, we're back with an update because his boozey mission is done and he didn't crumble once - and he's 44 pounds lighter for it.

Del, who works at Fifty West Brewing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, has drank exclusively from an assortment of beers for 46 days - a plan which was inspired by the fasting rituals of 18th century Bavarian monks.

Surely you'd be pissed by lunch time with all that booze on an empty stomach.

Now it's all come to an end, he's been able to compare his before and after health, and has only seen improvements. As if we weren't already jealous of his lifestyle choice.

Speaking to LADbible, Del said: "I'm feeling great! I went from 292.5 to 248.5. I lost 44 pounds. Not a single cheat! I plan to continue to lose weight through a protocol of intermittent fasting and portion control."

But he did assure me that he would continue to drink beer as it will always be part of his diet plan... y'know being his job and that. It's alright for some, isn't it?

You might be wondering what his first meal choice was. Well, he didn't mess around one bit as he explained: "I had Bone Broth last night at midnight... but it wasn't very good.

"So I was with a group of beer reps and I had a very small portion of guacamole... and it was heaven!"

Del is however 'totally craving sushi' - story of my life.

And speaking about his health improvements, he said: "My cholesterol went down, my blood pressure went down, and my blood sugar went down. All improvements."

Del started the challenge on Ash Wednesday (6 March) and within days he had shed over 15 pounds.

Speaking on his YouTube channel at the time, he said: "I'm down 15.6 pounds already - that's crazy. This isn't about the weight loss, this is about my journey and about breaking an addiction to food - and about trying to challenge myself and replicate what the Monks did.

"It's still super cool to be able to lose 15.6 pounds. I'm not calling this the 'Beer Fast Diet' or anything like that but it's super cool to see that number on the scales.

"I'm having anywhere from two to five beers a day. I'm not necessarily drinking in the morning, I'm not a breakfast person. So I get up, I have some water, I have a black coffee - no sweetener, no dairy, nothing in it, just black coffee.

"I normally have my first beer some time in the afternoon and I might have one whenever I'm feeling a bit peckish. The majority of the beers I'm drinking are at home. When I get home at night I might have two to three beers at the house and that's pretty much a typical day."

Is anyone else loving this weather but feeling like they should have laid off the commitment to 'winter warmth'? Maybe now's the time to introduce this way of living... and let's face it, it's not like your social life would be impaired.
