The use of paracetamol during pregnancy can lead to disturbances in the behavior of children aged 6 months to 11 years, scientists from the University of Bristol, UK, found out.

According to a press release on EurekAlert!, experts examined the data of 14,000 children. 43% of their mothers admitted that by the 7th month of pregnancy they were taking paracetamol to relieve pain.

Specialists conducted tests for memory, intelligence, pre-school development, temperament and behavior of these children, and found that the use of paracetamol by mothers is associated with a high risk of hyperactivity and distracted attention in young children. At the same time, boys were more susceptible to the negative effects of the drug than girls.

At a later age, negative effects, according to scientists, are not observed.

Experts also noted that the results were not affected by external social factors, as well as the reasons why women took paracetamol.

According to the authors of the study, the data obtained confirm the recommendation that women should be careful in taking medications during pregnancy, even those medications that seem completely harmless at first glance.
