The opinion that e-cigarettes are “less harmful” than regular cigarettes is a fake one, according to David Petrosyan, deputy director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to him, when it comes to harm to health, one cannot say that something is “less harmful” than anything else.
“How do we measure the degree of harmfulness? If a person who smokes regular cigarettes dies 13 years earlier, and a person who smokes e-cigarettes, for example, dies seven years earlier, can we say that you one smoke electronic cigarettes? In both cases, serious harm is done to human health, and to say that something is “less harmful” is incorrect,” he said.
According to the expert, science took about 60 years to understand that smoking is dangerous for health and causes a number of serious diseases, including oncological and cardiovascular diseases. The risks of e-cigarettes in modern science became obvious much earlier - decades were not needed for this. And although science does not yet know all the risks associated with this new product, experts can confidently say that it is carcinogenic and dangerous, just like ordinary cigarettes.
Recent studies have shown that e-cigarettes also cause lung cancer, moreover, even after a single use, they affect the blood vessels.
As data on the risks associated with e-cigarettes is growing every day, many countries are beginning to actively fight against these products: the US authorities want to significantly limit the sale of flavoring electronic cigarettes in the country, the Indian government has banned electronic cigarettes, and in South Korea, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has advised the public to refrain from using vapes.
